The current growth model divides us
and steals our future, Pope Francis said in his message for Lent
2024.
Writing on the theme "Through the desert God leads us to
freedom", Francis points his finger at "a model of growth that
divides us and steals our future".
It is what he calls "a dominion that makes us exhausted and
insensitive.
"The earth, air and water are polluted by it," he says, "but
souls are also contaminated by it.
"Indeed, although with baptism our liberation has begun, there
remains in us an inexplicable longing for slavery.
"It is like an attraction towards the security of things already
seen, to the detriment of freedom".
