Pope Francis on Monday congratulated
Italy for Jannik Sinner's triumphant victory at the Australian
Open tennis tournament in Melbourne on Sunday, Vatican News
reports.
The unscripted congratulations came during an audience at the
Vatican with a delegation from the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona,
which is celebrating 125 years.
22-year-old Sinner from South Tyrol beat Russian world number
three Daniil Medvedev 3-2 after coming back from two sets down
to become the first Italian to win a Grand Slam title in 48
years.
